5 Must-Taste U.S. Foodie Destinations

You always hear about “must-see” destinations, but here is a compilation of “must-taste” destinations for all of you foodies. Since you have your own plane, you can go anywhere in the world and sample the finest fare, but don’t forget to enjoy the amazing places in your own back yard. You will be glad you didn’t skip these cities in your world explorations.

Destination One

New Orleans, Louisiana

New Orleans has been noted for both its fine dining and its sandwiches. Perfectly blending Cajun flair, soul food, and French cuisine, a visit to New Orleans should come with a hefty budget for food. When in town, check out Brennan’s, the birthplace of bananas foster, and pick yourself up a stuffed artichoke from Frankie and Johnny’s. Depending upon the time of year, you may be able to get a smattering of incredible samples at one of the many festivals, as well.

Destination Two

Las Vegas, Nevada

Las Vegas is known for the gambling, but one thing the city doesn’t gamble on is its food. You can get healthy Mediterranean style cuisine or a heart stopping bacon and egg breakfast sandwich just paces away. The city is also big on its Italian dishes, with Carbone Las Vegas serving up some of the best vodka rigatoni that you’ve ever tasted.

Destination Three

New York, New York

New York City has to have a spot on every U.S. foodie destination list, but the city does not take the distinction lightly. New York City has got your back when it comes to fine dining, but don’t forget to grab a slice while you are there, as well. When in NYC, make sure you stop into Dirty French and try just about anything on the menu.

Destination Four

Portland, Maine

Portland, Maine has been all the rage in food circles recently. Maine has always been the cream of the crop when it comes to seafood, but Portland is shaking things up with offerings as diverse as barbecue, poutine, cannoli doughnuts, Mexican foods, specialty sodas, and Asian flair. When in Portland, though, make sure you stop into Eventide and check out the oyster bar, as the seafood is still the level best.

Destination Five

Seattle, Washington

When in Seattle, make sure you bring a healthy appetite for coffee so that you can see what all the fuss is about at places like Zeitgeist. If you wish to sample a great many dishes, check out Altura, as the restaurant has tasting menus that will let you try a few things. Most every restaurant has an emphasis on locally grown ingredients, though you’ll find everything from Southeast Asian cuisine to steak prepared the French way to vegetarian dishes throughout the city.
